Our text for this sermon comes from Acts 25. The title of this sermon is Living Your Life Above Reproach
Gingerbread house illustration.
A couple days ago, I decided that Bryson and I were going to tackle the task of building a gingerbread house.
In my head, it was going to look exactly like the picture on the box. I was going to get my Cake Boss on. We opened the box, we got the icing just right, we have the candy ready to go, we sorted the pieces of the house. Then the assembly began. We got the front and back pieces of the house glued to one wall and then we assembled the other wall. We got icing on the top of the house and the roof was set in place.
Then we begin to decorate. We put icing on the roof and then started to place the candy on the house. Then the whole thing just came crashing to the ground.
We all have dreams, passions, desires, illusions of grandeur, but without a clear sense of direction those things are just dust in the wind. Like my gingerbread house.
Besides that, who does your dreams, passions, and desires serve best? You or Jesus?
Live in a clean conscience before both God and man.
- Great Commandment Matthew 22
Jeremiah said the heart is evil and sick. Jeremiah 17:9
David said for God to search his heart and find any wicked way in him. Psalm 139:23-24
Paul struggled and fought to live his entire life this way. Above reproach. He lived in such a way that his character, behavior, and lifestyle could never be questioned.
Paul told the church in Colasse in Colossians 2:6 – As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord so walk in Him.
Easy way to put this. Make sure your life is conforming to the image of Jesus.
Be intentional about it.
The nanosecond that you get distracted – means you have taken your eyes off what you were focused on and put your focus on something else. Jesus no longer has your undivided attention.

There is a disconnect between fantasy and reality for guys that love to play video games. The average purchaser of video games in the United States is a male that is 37 years old. Guys love superhero movies, they love movies like The Matrix, Braveheart, and Gladiator. They love to play video games like Halo and Call of Duty. They love to fight and take a stand in video games. They love to cheer for the underdog, they are inspired by the character in a movie who is beaten down and has to endure, then fights against the people who persecuted and oppressed him. Then when it comes to reality, They don’t want to fight for anything. They don’t want to fight for their families, they are not interested in protecting their wives or being a daddy to their kids. They don’t care about their careers or marriages. They want to veg out in front of the TV in their parents’ basement in their Spiderman pajamas playing video games. They are boys not men.
The end of a year is a call for reflection. Reflect on dreams, relationships, time spent well and time wasted, how did you walk the majority of the time? In your way or God’s way?
