We have these hangups about church, God, and what we believe.
We sometimes feel that church has more rules than school or work.
We have these ideas, preconceived notions, about singing, clothes, saying Amen in church, and the list goes on and on.
The more hangups we have, the more likely we are to become hung over.
RULES! RULES! RULES!
I believe that we are so hung up on rules that we have lost our focus on Jesus.
Jesus was not all about rules. Jesus was more concerned with what is going on in your heart.
Everything in our life is tied to these two commandments.
If I love God….Commandments 1-4
If I love people….Commandments 5-10
We have heard that God loves us. Do we believe that God loves us?
Do we love God? No really….do we love God?
God sent Moses on the mountain to receive the 10 commandments. He comes back down to a party like Mardi Gras on crack. In the middle of the party is a golden calf, the object of the peoples’ true worship. Moses chunks the stone tablets in anger at the golden calf and has to go back up the mountain to get another copy of the 10 commandments.
It’s not about rules! It is all about Jesus.
Jesus = love
Jesus did not die for us to be enslaved by a bunch of rules. Jesus died so we have the freedom to live for Him and serve Him.
You can WANT to live for Jesus.
You can WANT to worship Him with all your heart.
It goes back to the love thing.
Love vs Legalism – Jesus does not weigh you down with a checklist that you cannot keep.
1 John 5:3-5
We make our relationship with Jesus so difficult.
We take it upon ourselves to carry our own burdens, garbage, baggage, junk….instead of giving everything to Jesus.
Jesus said – If you love me, keep my commandments! This is pretty revealing if you think about it. If you are resisting keeping His commandments, you might want to check on how much in love with God you really are.
You build a relationship with God by spending time with Him.
1 Corinthians 8:13
I am in love with God!
We should not do anything to give other people the wrong idea about us.
Jesus died so that we can know true love – His love.
How much we love others is a reflection of how much we love God.
How in love with God are you?
