Why should a Christian study Scripture?
Because as 1 Corinthians 15 shows, Christians are prone to forget.
Study: A state of contemplation, application of the mental faculties to the acquisition of knowledge, something attracting close attention or examination.
God’s Word is truth.
As you study Scripture, you are advancing or progressing in your sanctification process. You are being conformed to the image of Jesus.
Scriptures regarding study:
2 Timothy 2:15
How intimate your relationship with God is…is directly connected to how much time you spend in his Word.
The Holy Spirit does not grant understanding apart from the Bible but through it.
To know and study Scripture is to know more of God and develop a deeper relationship with Him.
2 Timothy 4:13
To study Scripture by yourself helps you learn how God is speaking to you and what he is revealing to you.
We are told to hear the word, read the word, abide and meditate in the word.
Hear the word: Romans 10:17, Luke 11:28
Hearing the Word builds your faith.
Read the Word: Revelation 1:3
Self study of Scripture helps to develop us and conform us more to the image of Jesus by transforming our mind.
Our character and overall spiritual maturity and development is a culmination of prayer, the reading, studying, and meditation of Scripture, hearing the Scriptures through preaching, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
