The title for this sermon is The Vessel That God Uses.
Our text comes from the Book of Acts 9:32-43.
Luke leaves Saul and picks up with Peter.
When God uses a man that is completely devoted to Him, there are no limits to what God can accomplish through him.
vs. 32 Wherever Peter went, he was submissive to the work that God has called him to do. Works have no bearing on salvation. Salvation is in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. Works are evidence that the Holy Spirit abides in you.
Peter has left Jerusalem and begins preaching in coastal towns.
Saints – disciples – Christians these terms are used interchangeably
vs. 33-34 Aeneas was paralyzed for eight years. We do not know what caused him to be paralyzed. We do know that one day he was walking, and something happened to cause him to be paralyzed.
Jesus Christ heals you.
God is Jehovah Rafa – The God our healer.
God can use doctors and medicine or heal people in spite of doctors and medicine.
vs. 35 Because of Peter’s obedience and the miracle that took place, more people turned to Jesus as Lord and Savior. God grows His church in His time.
vs. 36-37 Dorcas died
vs. 38-39 The disciples in Joppa sent for Peter
vs. 40-43 Dorcas restoration serves to remind us of our promised resurrection in Christ. If Jesus does not come back before our time to die, there will come a day where Jesus calls us home. Our dead bodies will reunite with our spirits and we will be taken into eternal fellowship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We will feast at his banquet table and we will meet everyone that carried the title of disciple.
Peter is not the same man that he was before Jesus.
