Physical maturity has no bearing on spiritual maturity. It is possible for a teenager or a college student to be more spiritually mature than someone who has been saved and going to church 30-50 years. Going to church by itself does not help you mature spiritually. It does not by itself help to advance you in your sanctification process.
Vs. 8 – These things do not conform you to the image of Christ. They only push you further away. Malice – contemplated anger. Malice is anger that takes root deep in your spirit. Slander/obscene talk/blasphemy – The Bible clearly says that from out of the heart, the mouth speaks. This is not just about speaking evil of God but speaking evil of others too.
Vs. 9 Lying destroys faith and friendships. Lying is a sign of spiritual immaturity. Lying conforms you more to the devil’s image. Lying is used to hide the truth. The liar and the person or people who believe the lies are digging for themselves a hole of condemnation. When information is given to you, consider your source. Test what you hear.
People make excuses. “That’s just the way they are.” That is just their character, behavior, personality, they just lack spiritual maturity. That crap is not excusable.
Vs. 10-11 You are dead. Your life is hidden in Christ. Christ is your life.
Holiness knows no gender, race, cultural background, social status or personality. Neither does grace.
God will enable you to accomplish what He has called you to. He has called you to be holy. So, He will enable you to do so.
If you are not living in holiness, if you are not killing sin, if you are not renewing your mind, if you are not advancing in your sanctification process, if you are not passionate about your relationship with Christ, it’s not His fault – it’s yours.
1 Corinthians 13:11
Grow Up. Stop making excuses. Kill Sin. Live in Holiness.
