Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I love cold weather and any reason to have hot chocolate or a fire in the fireplace. Since, Bryson has been born; I want to start some new family traditions. My wife and I have been married for a little over 8 years but we do not have any traditions that are carved in stone.
So, I have been thinking about family and Christmas. I believe that as a dad, it is my job to start some new traditions that will be etched into the memories of my family for years to come.
I plan on reading the Christmas story to Bryson. I want him to grow to understand what Christmas is about. I want him to learn how God sent a baby to earth to grow up among men and save the world from death and sin. I also hope to start a family tradition of driving around and showing him Christmas decorations and lights.
Kristi and I usually open one gift together on Christmas eve. I think I would like for us to keep that one going.
I want to teach Bryson that Christmas is more about giving than receiving.
These are just a few of the ideas I have right now. I am sure that as Bryson get older, there will be other traditions that we start. I am just excited that this is our first Christmas with our little boy. I can’t wait to see his eyes light up when he sees Christmas lights. He is going to have a good time being surrounded by a family that loves him. There will be a lot of pictures taken this Christmas season, I am sure of that.
I am not sure how he will react to having his picture taken with Santa Claus. That will be fun to watch.
What about you? What family traditions do you have that you enjoy? Which ones do you hope to pass down to your children?
