LifeWay is great as a bookstore and a company that provides curriculum for small groups and Sunday School classes. It is good at supplying magazines for parents, senior adults, college students, teenagers, and housewives but I do believe they are missing something….a magazine for men. Now Homelife is a good magazine but it is designed mainly for women. I read a letter in a past issue of Homelife that sparked this post. A person wrote a letter to the magazine and asked why there was not a magazine for men. The response that Homelife gave was that their magazine now has four pages that are for men. Not that it is bad and they might even pride themselves on their four pages, but seriously what man is going to read through the whole magazine to get to the four pages for him? Probably slim to none. They will probably just skip to their four pages and read those if they read the magazine at all. What I believe needs to happen is a magazine that caters to men but the focus of the magazine is to drive men to Christ. This magazine could be huge. It could offer a lot more than just the four pages in Homelife. The magazine should cover a wide variety of topics as Homelife does. Men like cars, sports, food, books, movies, music, technology, and other things but there should be a part of the magazine that would incorporate a Bible study that would last from issue to issue. The Bible study could lead into a part of the magazine that talks about how the man is the spiritual leader of the home and then have articles written specifically for the man to learn how to be a more godly husband, how to be a good father, how to take care of his family finances, how to be more conformed to the image of Christ. God calls the man to be the spiritual leader of the home. I believe this is a huge opportunity for a magazine to reach men for Christ but sadly there is not one on the market. Maybe there was a failed attempt in the past. Times change. It is time for a magazine for men that does not have scantily dressed women pictured throughout the magazine and does not talk about their recreational sex life. Hopefully, if LifeWay does not pick this up, another publisher will.
